Peter Sutherland, chairman of Goldman Sachs International and non-executive chairman of BP-Amoco, is the most prominent Irishman on the international economic scene. He is also the only non-Swede on the board of Ericsson.Called to the Bar in 1969, he was appointed Attorney General in 1982 and went on to become Ireland's European Commissioner in 1985, responsible for competition policy. He became chairman of AIB in 1989-93 and in 1993 Peter became Director General of GATT, and in two years he persuaded over 100 countries to sign up to a new world trade agreement.Peter is a highly accomplished and experienced speaker on business issues, especially on Europe.
